Instructions for colonoscopy preparation with “MoviPrep”
The doctor uses a colonoscope (a long, flexible tube with a light and a tiny camera attached) to explore the entire length of the large intestine, which includes the colon and the rectum. The colonoscope is also equipped with a device that allows your doctor to remove polyps during a colonoscopy—a major step toward the prevention of colon cancer. The colonoscopy itself is virtually painless, as most patients are sedated during the procedure. In fact, many people report waking up from a colonoscopy with no memory of the exam at all.
You must arrive to the procedure accompanied by a relative or a friend who will also take you home after the procedure. You must not drive for 12 hours after the procedure.
You should stop iron containing medications 7 days before the procedure. If you are diabetic, you should adjust the dosage of you anti-diabetic medications- consult with your family doctor. In case you take clopidogrel (Plavix), or anticoagulants (coumadin, pradaxa, xarelto) consult with your doctor regarding discontinuation of these medications for 7 days before the conolonoscopy with or without switching to Clexan (which should be discontinued 12 hours before the procedure).
Preparation for the procedure: a low-residue diet

Instructions for Colonoscopy preparation with “Moviprep” (continue)
Each MoviPrep kit contains 2 pouches labeled #1, and 2 pouches labeled #2.
When should I start drinking the MoviPrep? Taking the first dose and second dose of MoviPrep depends on the time of the colonoscopy. Please refer to the table below.
How should I prepare each dose of Moviprep?
You must pour bag #1 (the large bag) + bag #2 (the smaller bag) into a liter of water (about 5 cups), and mix well until fully dissolved. After preparing the solution, drink a cup of the solution every 15 minutes until completion. Drink 1 liter of clear liquid of your choice (water, clear soup, tea or coffee without milk, juice without pulp, soft drinks). This is a necessary step to ensure adequate hydration and an effective prep. Avoid any red or purple liquid, such as cranberry juice or grape juice, as the coloring can interfere with the results of your exam. Also avoid milk, dairy products, and nondairy coffee creamer.
Tips for taking MoviPrep:
- Refrigerate the solution for at least 1/2 hour prior to drinking.
- Take “Pramin” 10 mg 1/2 hour prior to drinking
- Drink the MoviPrep with a straw
- Put an ice cube in your mouth for a minute or two before drinking.
